Elon Musk’s Chances of Being in Donald Trump’s Administration

Bookmaker William Hill is offering odds of 1/5 (83.3 percent) on billionaire Elon Musk taking on an official government role within President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and owner of X, formerly Twitter, established himself as one of Trump’s most high-profile supporters over the past few months, with CNBC reporting that he donated “at least $130 million” to a pro-Trump campaign ahead of the election. On November 6, Musk celebrated Trump’s electoral victory by writing on X, “The future is gonna be so [fire emoji].” He later joined the president-elect on a telephone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a speech at the Economic Club of New York in September, Trump suggested that in his second administration, Musk could head a “government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government.”
In an X post, Musk responded: “I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises. No pay, no title, no recognition is needed.”
The British betting company also has odds of 1/7 (87.5 percent) on former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receiving a government job, 1/10 (90.9 percent) for Florida Senator Marco Rubio and 4/1 (20 percent) for Donald Trump Jr.
Speaking to Newsweek, William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “Since Donald Trump swept back into the White House last week much of the discussion has turned to who he will name to be in his top team.
“Having been ever-present alongside Trump on the campaign trail, we make Elon Musk just 1/5 to accept an official government position within the Trump administration, while it’s likely Marco Rubio will also take official office at 1/10.”
Newsweek contacted Trump’s media team and Musk, via the SpaceX and Tesla press offices, for comment via email outside regular office hours.
On Tuesday, Reuters reported that Trump was expected to appoint Rubio as his secretary of state. However, the president-elect’s team has not made an official announcement.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is expected to be made the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, CNN reported.
Kennedy, who ran as an independent presidential candidate, dropped out of the race in August and endorsed Trump. In October, Trump said he would let Kennedy, who has been skeptical of vaccines, “go wild” on health policy during his second administration, and The Washington Post reported that Kennedy could be appointed “health czar.”
William Hill is also offering odds of 2/5 (71.4 percent) on Trump, 78, completing his second presidential term.
On Sunday, Kai Trump, the president-elect’s 17-year-old granddaughter, posted a photograph on X of herself with Musk and his four-year-old son, X Æ A-12, writing in the caption, “Elon achieving uncle status.”
In the image, Musk’s son has his mouth open and holds a golf ball over one eye. Musk commented on the photo, “Lil X is being such a troll.”
